/frosting combination. Based on the size of the cake Jessica told me that we would have about $100 left over to utilize towards the flowers that I wanted to go on the cake. I sent her several images as well as showed her that day the very specific color of the cake I needed it to be (which was a dark pink). Unfortunately when it arrived on my wedding day it was baby pink. When I emailed her afterwards and asked her about this she never responded therefore I called her. The response that she gave me was that all she had written on the contract was pink and that she just didn't use enough food coloring pink. That is unacceptable response. When you pay for a product you expected to be delivered in the way in which you had discussed with the vendor, especially when having talked with her about this several times and sending several images of the same cake. During this conversation she also told me that her minimum was actually $500 and made it sound as though she was doing me a huge favor by doing a cake that was so small. She also mentioned that she had made the cake two inches larger so that it would be easier to travel. I believe we had already talked about that the day of my tasting and with the 8-inch cake instead of the 6 inch it was still well within $300 that I had already paid. She knew it was going to be traveling so I don't think that her telling me today that she upsized the cake was any different than what we had already previously discussed. I'm extremely disappointed as I had a vision in my mind of what the cake needed to look like. It by no means ruined my day however it did definitely detract from it. My suggestion to Future Brides would be if you have specific colors make sure that these are written down by Jessica otherwise you may get at best an approximation. But these two colors were so vastly different it's not even as if they were just a shade or two off, they were at complete opposite ends of the spectrum. When I asked if there was anything she would do since this was her mistake she declined and said that no there was nothing she would do. I hope for future Brides that if you meet with her and you have something specific that you takes better notes, as I thought I was covered given how many times I followed up with her and the amount of images I sent to her again and again with the same exact image in addition to talking about it verbally face-to-face on the day of our cake tasting. I'm very disappointed in this experience as I had heard nothing but glowing reviews prior to this. I will definitely not recommend this Bakery. As a side note there were some issues with a few of the other vendors however all of them offered some sort of compensation or future usage of funds as the errors were theirs. This is the only vendor who is not willing to accommodate or make amends for her mistake.
I had Jessica do a small cake for my wedding on June 24th, 2017. I should have known that this was not going be the best experience given it was very difficult for me to get Jessica to respond to emails and or calls before we finally even got a contract set. I suspect this was largely because I was not spending a ton of money and did not need a large order. Regardless, because I had heard such glowing reviews of her, I pursued her and finally got her to intermittently respond. This was a small cake as it was only for cutting, not serving. Jessica told me that her minimum was $300 so that is what I paid before ever having met her. We scheduled the tasting, for which we paid an additional amount, and selected our cake
Jessica is very talented, however customer service was highly lacking for us. Once we paid for our $450 cake, it was next to impossible to get ahold of her and on the day of our wedding she dropped off our cake unfinished without the agreed upon flowers/decor because she was rushed to get to another venue. When you pay this much money, and considering that this was our wedding gift from my parents, you expect a certain quality and basic level of communication from the business owner. While Jessica's cakes are beautiful and good quality, know ahead of time that if you choose to invest your money with this business you may not get what you pay for in service, communication, and in my case quality.
Always such a pleasure to work with Jessica! Not only because it is great fun to photograph a Simply Sweet designed desert table but also because I can sneak a few miniature cupcakes thereafter. Whether you want to sample a sweet little desert in town in Petoskey at the Simply Sweet bakery or have them design your wedding cake you will not be disappointed by their delicious delights!
Cake turned out awesome! Exactly what we wanted. We went with vanilla bean with buttercream frosting and we received plenty of great reviews from our guests saying how good it was. Living over 3 hours away it made it challenging to schedule a cake tasting when we were in the area. However, we were pleasantly surprised. Communication was fairly easy and was done completely through emails. The only improvement point would be communication of the cost. The cost of the actual cake was communicated early on before booking the vendor however the additional fees were not and for the rentals and transportation fees were just as much as the actual cake. Overall, excellent cake and so glad we used Simply Sweet by Jessica. Definitely will be visiting the bakery in the future!
